Horní Lhota is a municipality in the Ostrava-město District. It lies about 10 km west of Ostrava-Poruba.

The first written mention of the municipality dates to 1446. At 404 m above sea level, Úhorky is the highest hill in the Ostrava-město District, and a transmitter stands at its summit. The Vaňkův kopec ski area, with four lifts, is in Zátiší, a part of the municipality, near the terminus of the tram from Ostrava-Poruba. Since 2020, a woodland bee education trail about 0.6 km long has run by Vaňkův kopec and includes a real beehive. The municipality also has a chapel built in 1845 and monuments to the victims of both world wars.

The municipal office is based in the Municipal House on Záhumení Street, which also houses the municipal library and a gym used for municipal events. The kindergarten at Na Kopečku has one mixed class and is organisationally part of Velká Polom Primary School.
