Těrlicko lies between Havířov and Český Těšín. The municipality comprises Dolní Těrlicko, Horní Těrlicko and Hradiště. The first written record of the municipality dates to 1229.

The Těrlická Reservoir on the Stonávka River was commissioned in 1962, and 141 structures in Těrlicko disappeared beneath its surface. The Jaškovská krčma, first mentioned in 1268, is a cultural monument and operates as a restaurant. The memorial at Żwirkowisko in Horní Těrlicko commemorates the Polish aviators Żwirko and Wigura, who died there in a plane crash on 11 September 1932.
