Václavovice lies in the Těšínsko region of Ostrava-město District. Until 2006, it belonged to Frýdek-Místek District. It has a population of over 2,100.

The settlement's origins date back to the early 14th century, and 1302 is usually cited as the year of its first mention. The filial Church of St Wenceslas in Václavovice was built between 1998 and 2001. Restaurant Čepaník on Frýdecká Street in Václavovice also serves as a cultural and social centre, with a hall where the municipality holds cultural events.
